Fraser Fest
The history and prosperity of the City of New Westminster is closely linked to the Fraser River. FraserFest celebrates one of the greatest salmon spawning rivers of the world. The Fraser Fest highlights the important role that the River played in the development of British Columbia and New Westminster, and the equally important role it still plays, as a port, as a highway for river commerce, and as a recreational resource.
FraserFest is very well supported by the community and the surrounding region, both through the estimated 65,000 people that attend each year, and through the many partnerships and sponsorships that FraserFest enjoys. The FraserFest Committee is made up of individuals representing local businesses, the arts, the City, the media, service clubs, associations and more. Attendees at FraserFest contribute significantly to the local economy, and are encouraged to return and patronize businesses and attractions again in future.
FraserFest is an annual family event and free and open to everyone.
FraserFest will be taking place July 16-18, 2010 along the boardwalk at the New Westminster Quay. Blending new attractions with old favourites, the festival appeals to kids, youth, professionals and families alike. The 2009 event boasted a Caribbean party, fire dancers, cabaret, circus performers, fireworks and a day dedicated especially to children's entertainment.
