The Anvil Battery Salute
On Victoria Day a group of men dressed in scarlet salute the sovereign in an event which has become an integral part of the Hyack Festival. It traces back to the days of Queen Victoria, and the unique innovation of igniting gunpowder placed between two anvils to provide the traditional "21 gun salute" to the sovereign on her birthday. The tradition has continued each year since, and is known around the world.
